Granny charging or Level 1 charging will typically use 10A 2.4kW of power and add 10km–15km of range per hour, and can take up to 25 hrs+ from 0–100% to charge. Hence why Level 2 charging is the first option recommended.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW.
Why NOT a Standard 10A GPO?
We only recommend a dedicated 15A IP-rated outlet. Any appliance drawing 10–15A for prolonged periods is too much stress for a regular GPO. EV charging runs for 10+ hours — a dedicated circuit is the correct solution.
When is a Granny Charger the Right Choice?
A 15A dedicated outlet makes sense when you have a strata building with limited switchboard capacity, budget is the primary constraint, or you only need to add 50–100km of range overnight.

Level 1 vs Level 2 — Which Should You Choose?
Level 2 (7kW–22kW wall charger) is always the recommended option — it adds 35–40km of range per hour and can fully charge most EVs in 8–10 hours. However, if your building has limited switchboard capacity, or budget is the primary constraint, a dedicated 15A outlet is a viable and properly engineered solution. We'll advise you honestly on which option suits your situation.
